Building BI - Widget Customization & Styling

“Set as Default Style” and “Apply Default Style" Features

The "Set as Default Style" and “Apply Default Style" features allow you to quickly copy styling from one widget or chart to others within the same Building BI page. This helps maintain consistency without needing to adjust each widget manually.

Important: A default style can be applied only at the page level, not the dashboard level.

Example: If a dashboard has 5 pages, a saved default style will apply only to the page you’re currently editing, not the entire dashboard.

Tip: To apply the same style to all widgets on the current page, press Ctrl + A to select all widgets, then choose “Apply Default Style.”

How to Set a Default Style

1. Go to Building BI -> Collection & Dashboards

2. Pick the one you want to edit (in our case that would be Standard Overrides Report)

3. Go to the top right where it says "Edit Dashboard"

4. Click on one of the charts or widgets (in this case we're gonna click on the "Overridden Points By Device Type"), go to “Style” and make changes on that, for example we're gonna make the background Blue.

5. Click on the “Set as Default Style” button.

How to Apply a Default Style?

To apply a saved default style:

Select a widget and go to the Style tab of the “Chart Configuration” window to click "Apply Default Style".

  • To apply the style to more widgets:
    1. Click on the 2 dots icon at the top right of the widget and select all:

      1. Charts of the same type (e.g. Bar Charts)- It will select all charts of the same type

      2. All Charts on Page - It will select all charts of the page

  • Click on the “Apply Default Style” button , to apply the style to the selected charts.

In our case, we have applied the style to the "Overridden Points By Point Type" widget that has been updated in the same way we previously modified the "Overridden Points By Device Type" widget.

Once you publish the dashboard with these changes, you will then be able to reset the Default Style. Before publishing, the blue color will remain as the current Default Style. After publishing, simply go back to "Edit Dashboard" to set a new Default Style.

Keyboard Shortcuts

To make this process easier, Building BI offers multi-select options. This means you can click on a widget, hold Ctrl, and click on other widgets to group them based on your preference. Then, click "Apply Default Style" to apply the style to all selected widgets at once, instead of doing it manually for each one. Additionally, pressing Ctrl + A will select all widgets and charts on the dashboard, allowing you to apply the Default Style to everything at once.

Customizing Chart Styles in Bulk

Bulk styling allows you to quickly standardize the look and feel of multiple widgets of a page at once. Whether you're aligning general layout elements or updating chart-specific visual styles, this feature makes it easy to apply changes quickly and keep everything looking consistent.

Selecting Widgets for Bulk Styling

To begin editing multiple widgets:

  • Open the ⋮ (three-dot) menu on any widget.

  • Choose one of the following options:

    • Select All Widgets on Page - selects every widget on the dashboard page.

    • Select All [Chart Type] Widgets on Page - selects all widgets of the same type (e.g., all Bar Charts, all Line Charts).

Once selected, each widget will appear in a highlighted state, and bulk styling actions (such as Apply Default Styles) become available.

Customizing Widgets of the Same Chart Type

When you select multiple widgets of the same chart type, you can edit both:

General Style Settings

These are options shared across all widgets, such as:

  • Background color

  • Borders and shadows

  • Title font, size, and alignment

  • Margins and spacing

Chart-Specific Style Settings

These options vary depending on the chart type. Examples include:

  • Axis labels and gridlines

  • Data colors and gradient palettes

  • Marker shapes and line thickness (for line-based charts)

  • Bar or column thickness

  • Value formatting, prefixes, suffixes, and labels

This allows you to apply fine-grained visual adjustments (like updating the color palette for all Bar Charts) without editing each widget individually.

Customizing General Styles Across Different Chart Types

If you select multiple widgets of different types, only general styles are available. This prevents conflicts between incompatible settings while still allowing you to maintain a consistent dashboard look.

General properties you can edit include:

  • Background color

  • Border and shadow

  • Title font, size, and alignment

  • Margins and spacing

  • Legend visibility (where applicable)

All selected widgets update at the same time, ensuring a cohesive visual layout.

Note: Chart-type-specific settings (such as gridlines or marker types) are intentionally hidden when multiple chart types are selected.

When to Use Each Mode

  • Same chart type selected: Best for detailed styling or applying consistent data visuals across similar charts.

  • Mixed chart types selected: Ideal for aligning general layout elements and ensuring a unified design.

Remove and Duplicate Charts in Bulk

You can quickly duplicate or remove multiple charts at once using the bulk selection options.

How to Select Multiple Widgets

You can select charts in two ways:

  • Using the widget menu: Click the ⋮ (three-dot) menu on any widget and choose a selection option.

  • Using keyboard and mouse: Press Ctrl + A to select all widgets on the page, or hold Ctrl and click each widget to select them individually. Once selected, open the ⋮ (three-dot) menu on any of the highlighted widgets.

Duplicate or Delete Widgets in Bulk

After selecting your widgets:

  • Click Duplicate to create copies of all selected widgets.

  • Click Delete to remove all selected widgets at once.

This makes it easy to reorganize dashboards, test layout variations, or clean up unnecessary charts in just a few clicks.

Copy & Paste Widget Styles

Every widget can be personalized (X-Axis, Y-Axis, Bar Configuration, Legends, etc.)to display data the way you need. In Building BI, we can now use the “Copy Style” option to quickly replicate the style of one widget onto others, either individually or in bulk.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to the desired dashboard (e.g., Standard Overrides Report) and click Edit Dashboard.

  1. Select the widget you want to use as a model (e.g., Overridden Points By Area).

  2. Click the 3 dots on the widget and choose Copy Style.

  1. Select the target widget (e.g., Overridden Points By Device), click the 3 dots, and choose Paste Style.

Now, the second widget will have the same styling, legends, and configurations as the first.

Bulk Paste Option:

  • In Edit mode, hold Ctrl and select multiple widgets (or Ctrl + A to select all widgets).

  • Click the 3 dots on one of the selected widgets and choose Paste Styles on Selected.

This allows you to quickly standardize the look and feel of multiple widgets across a dashboard.

Enhanced Graphic View

This new feature allows you to add a Floorplan Graphic to a Building BI widget, enabling graphics within dashboards to respond automatically to BI filters and interact with other widgets. When slicers or filters are applied, markers update dynamically to display only relevant data without manual reconfiguration. This enhancement improves dashboard consistency, streamlines investigation workflows, and delivers a more responsive and interactive visualization experience.

How it works:

  1. Create a dashboard (e.g., Test Enhanced Graphic View).

  1. Add slicers and place a Graphic widget underneath these slicers.

  1. When you filter using a slicer (e.g., Device Name, Point Name, or Ontology Point Field), the Graphic widget automatically updates to show only the respective device, point, or ontology-related devices.

  2. For example, if FC_15_10 is selected, the Graphic widget below will display only that device across all layers (Temperature, Lighting, Air Quality, Occupancy, or Devices).

This allows for dynamic, interactive visualizations that reflect your filter selections in real time, making dashboards more intuitive and easier to analyze.
