Upcoming Enhancement to Credential Security

Upcoming Enhancement to Credential Security

Overview

Starting December 10, 2024, KODE Labs will implement an update to enhance platform security and user experience. As part of this change, sensitive data source credentials will no longer be visible on the Data Source Details Page for all users. While this update improves security, it does not affect the functionality of your existing data sources or workflows.

This article explains what will change, answers common questions, and provides guidance on how to manage data source credentials moving forward.

What’s changing?

  • Credential Visibility Removal: Sensitive credentials will no longer appear on the Data Source Details Page.

  • User Impact: All users, regardless of permissions, will lose the ability to view stored credentials through the platform interface.

How will this impact you?

1. Can I enter credentials anymore? If so, who can?

Yes, you can still enter credentials when setting up or editing a data source. However, after saving, the credentials will no longer be visible in the user interface.

2. When do the credentials disappear?

Credentials will disappear immediately after you save the data source details.

3. Can I change the credentials if I can’t see them?

Yes, you can update credentials even if you cannot see the existing ones. To change a password or other details:

  • Open the Edit Data Source page.

  • Enter the new credentials and save.

  • From here you can test the connection of the Data Source and Save the changes.

What happens if a Data Source password changes?

If a password or other credential associated with a data source changes, you will need to re-enter and save the new credentials. Deleting and recreating the data source is not required.

How to Test Data Source Connections?

To ensure that your data source is properly connected, you can test the connection directly in the Data Source list page. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Data Source list page.

  2. Click on the 3 dots button and then click Test Connections.

  3. Check the connection status to ensure the data source is correctly connected or if there is any error showing up if the data source is not connected.

Next Steps

To prepare for this change:

  • Store credentials securely: Make sure you have stored your data source credentials in a secure location, as you will no longer have access to view them within the platform.

  • Notify your team: Inform relevant team members of the change and encourage them to securely document credentials.
