Duplicating (Copying) Points Between Devices

Duplicating (Copying) Points Between Devices

This article explains how to duplicate (copy) points between devices.

Duplicating points allows the same point (for example, a setpoint or sensor) to be shared across multiple devices. Common use cases include shared sensors, shared setpoints, or major water systems. Unlike moving points on virtual devices, duplicating points ensures the point remains available on both the source and target devices.

Before this feature, copying points required templating and cross-referencing devices, which could create unnecessary or incorrect references. The Copy Points feature removes that complexity.

Note: You can only copy points from original devices. Copying points from virtual devices is not supported.

How to Copy Points

The Copy Points functionality is available in the Devices module under Batch Update Devices.

Access Copy Points

  1. Go to Devices from the main left navigation menu.

  1. Click Batch Update Devices (top-right of the devices list).

  1. Select Copied Points from the left-hand menu.

Start the Copy Process

Click Copy Points (top-right).

Step 1: Select Source Device and Points

Select Source Device - choose the device you want to copy points from (for example, VAV-410).

Step 2: Select Points to Copy

Select Points - choose one or more points to duplicate.

Step 3: Select Target Devices

Select one or more target devices where the points will be copied.

Step 4: Review and Confirm

  • Review the summary showing:

    • Source device

    • Selected points

    • Target devices

View Results

  • After confirmation, the results will display.

  • The copied points will now appear on the selected target devices.

Point Behavior After Duplication

Understanding how duplicated points behave is important:

  • Templating

    • If the original point on the source device was templated, the point will not be copied as templated in the target device.

  • Deleting from Source Device

    • If the point is deleted from the source device, it will be deleted from all devices where it was duplicated.

  • Deleting from Target Device

    • If the point is deleted from a target device, only the duplication is removed. The source point remains on the source device.

Removing Duplicated Points

To remove duplicated points:

  • Navigate to DevicesBatch Update DevicesCopied Points and locate the duplicated point.

  • Select the checkbox next to the point and Click Delete Duplicated Points.

  • Select the checkbox next to the point.

  • Click Delete Duplicated Points.

Viewing or Managing Target Devices

  • Click the device name in the Target Devices column, or

  • Hover over the row, click the three-dot (⋮) menu, and select View Target Device.

From the target device view, you can:

  • Copy the point to another device using Copy to New Devices, or

  • Remove the duplicated point from that target device.

Alternative Way to Copy Points

You can also copy points directly from the device details page.

  1. Go to Devices from the main left navigation bar.

  2. Select the device.

  3. Click Device Details (top-right).

  1. Click Edit Points.

  1. Select the point you want to duplicate & Click the two-square (copy) icon in the right panel.

  1. Select the target device and click Copy Now.

Copied Points History

The Copied Points page also serves as a history of all copied points within a building. From this page, you can view:

  • The source point (which point was copied)

  • The source device

  • The target device(s)

  • The date the copy action was performed

This history helps track shared points and manage ongoing duplication across devices.
